SERMON APPLICATION QUESTIONS

Mark 1:9-13

1. Read Mark 1 out loud and spend time praying together.

2. What is meant by the Doctrine of the Trinity that was mentioned in the message in relationship to Mark 1:14? Why was this idea so shocking to the Jewish community of Jesus’ day and still difficult for many to grasp today? Why is this doctrine important to the Christian faith? What are some personal applications you can make for its importance in your life?

3. Why was Jesus’ baptism so striking (review verses 4-8)? Why did Jesus get baptized? What does Jesus’ baptism mean for you?

4. Why was Jesus sent into the wilderness? What did Jesus accomplish while in the wilderness? Why is it important that Jesus (who is God and cannot sin) was tempted and did not sin? Why is Jesus’ wilderness experience important to our redemption? What does Jesus’ victory over temptation mean for you while still facing temptation today?
