A Study in the Book of Philippians
Application Questions for Week 3
Great movements of God often begin in
seemingly insignificant ways!
1. According to D.A. Carson, what does partnership/fellowship mean? Are you experiencing authentic, Christian fellowship currently? Why or why not? What would need to change in you in order for you to experience deeper fellowship in the gospel?
2. When gospel-centered fellowship/partnerships exist, what three things were mentioned that would be evidenced within those relationships?
3. Why does Paul begin by “thanking God” (verse 3) for them when we might think he should begin by thanking them for what they have done? Take a moment to reflect upon your church family. Name several people you thank God for right now and why do you thank God for them?
4. Why does Paul express such affection for this church (verses 7 and 8) and not some of the other churches to which he writes, such as the Galatian church and perhaps the Corinthian church? Note: All the churches are filled with sinners, so is it something more? How can you help cultivate gospel-centered, loving relationships within this church family?
5. In the message, it was stated that verse 6 reveals our doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints. What is the root of Paul’s assurance of the work being completed? How do we know if God has begun a good work in our lives? In whom or in what is your confidence for your future?
