SERMON #15: “ENDING LIFE SATISFIED”

November 25, 2018

Topic: Old Testament Scripture: Genesis 25:7–11

Sermon Application Questions

  1. God’s faithfulness is revealed in spite of our folly. How might Abraham’s folly be revealed in Genesis 25:1-4? Can you share a time when your lack of patience with God’s timing might have shown in an act of folly? How is God’s faithfulness to keep His promises revealed in these verses? Can you share a time when God’s faithfulness in your life was evident even in a foolish choice you made? How should this encourage the believer?

  1. Genesis 25:5-6 displays God’s sovereign choice of one man over others? What are the practical implications for the doctrine of election in your life (i.e. assurance, confidence, boldness in our witness)? Explain.

  1. The key to a full and satisfying life, which is marked by contentment and peace of mind and heart, is love for and friendship with God (Genesis 25:7-11). After honest reflection, would others see your life as being full and satisfying? Why or why not? Describe the source of contentment and peace that marks your life.

  1. Abraham left a legacy of faith in the Lord that would bless multitudes in the generations to come (Romans 4; James 2; Galatians 3; Hebrews 11). Take a moment to reflect on the legacy of your life. What will your legacy be (e.g. a life that models faith for others or one focused on the folly this world)?

  1. Quickly reflect on the life of Abraham in Chapters 12-25. What are some of the areas of his life (failures and successes) that stand out to you? How can you learn to be more faithful in your walk with Christ from the example of Abraham?
