GRACE MADE VISIBLE: A STUDY IN THE LIFE OF JESUS
IN THE GOSPEL OF MARK
SERMON APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Mark 1:21-28

1. All of us have a source of authority in our lives that will determine how we think and act. What source of authority exerts the most influence in your life: reason, experience, tradition, or revelation? Discuss each and give examples of how each play a role in what we believe and how we act?

2. When we speak of revelation as the revealing of God’s Word, we should think of it in two forms. The propositional form (or the written Word of God) and the form of a Person (the Living Word, Jesus Christ). What is the relationship between the written Word of God and the living Word of God? What is the difference between the respect we have for the written Word of God and the worship we owe to the living Word of God? Will they ever contradict? Why or why not?

3. What was the reaction to Jesus, the teacher in our passage? Why did Mark choose not to record Jesus’ first message?

4. Do we still believe demonic attacks happen as we see in our text? How do we determine if something is a naturally evil event that happens in a fallen world and when something is demonic? Have you seen any evidence of demonic actions?

5. Discuss the fact that the demonic account happens in a synagogue (church) setting and the fact that the demons had such good theology.

6. How does this passage impact our passion to spread the gospel in our world today?
