GRACE MADE VISIBLE: A STUDY IN THE LIFE OF JESUS
IN THE GOSPEL OF MARK

SERMON APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Mark 1:1-8

1. Try to read through the gospel of Mark in one sitting this week (or as quickly as possible). Discuss within the group some of the distinctive features of Mark’s Gospel. What is the main theme of Mark as revealed in verse 1?

2. Why do you think it is becoming more difficult for Christians to share their faith with others? What are some of your hesitations in sharing your faith in Christ with neighbors, friends, and/or family members?

3. What two things were mentioned about Mark and the Gospel he wrote that give us confidence to share our faith in Christ? How does this information help us in sharing with people of both religious (e.g. Muslim, Mormon, Buddhist, etc.) and non-religious backgrounds?

4. Notice again verses2-4. What do we learn about the messenger and his message in verses 2-8? What is the difference, if any, between his message and the gospel we preach today? It is always important to understand the events you read in the Bible with where they are in the history of God working and revealing His plan to save sinners.

5. What is striking about the way John baptized people? What impact does John’s message and manner of preaching have on our understanding of following Christ and calling others to follow Him?
